The name Gococo has puzzled many over the years! We have heard lots of different variations on explanations for the name and attempts at pronunciation and must actually say that it is one of the charms of the name. It makes people stop and think! The name came about when we wanted a name that was a bit "outside the box" and a bit of a backlash to everything in the sports world that has "X", "Power" etc. in it. We wanted to be something different that felt more happy and fun! So it really has nothing to do with the fact that we come from Gothenburg and are good and happy :-) Regarding the pronunciation, we have decided to let it live freely! There is no right or wrong. As the Gothenburgers we are, we pronounce it ourselves as "GoKoKo" but many choose to pronounce it "GoooCooCoo", GoCoCoo" or "GoooKouKou". Kinda funny actually! So simply choose what suits you best.
-
An important question! The technology in Gococo's socks is completely natural and is sometimes called green technology. This means that the technology to obtain the sock's properties such as quick-drying and odor-eliminating is natural and no chemical treatments or added metal nanoparticles have been used as is otherwise common to achieve these properties. However, a lot of our socks, like most other functional garments, are knitted in polyester material which is unfortunately never a natural material. However, we use recycled polyester to the greatest extent possible. Since 2023, all 37.5® Technology material in the socks is completely biodegradable, which is completely unique!
All our yarns are Öko-tex certified and we use FSC certified paper in our packaging. -
All Gococo's socks are designed in Sweden and manufactured in Europe. We collaborate with factories that operate under fair working conditions and have a strong focus on quality, sustainable production, and efficient resource management. This way, we can ensure high quality in every pair of socks.

Running & Training
-
The right running socks should fit comfortably, wick away moisture, and reduce the risk of chafing throughout your run. Which model is best for you depends on how and where you run.
-
Yes, running socks are designed to provide a better fit, efficient moisture transport, and high comfort during your run. This makes a big difference, especially on longer runs or when you run frequently.
-
Running socks can reduce the risk of chafing through a good fit, efficient moisture wicking, and materials that help keep feet drier during your run. A seamless toe is also an important detail that can help reduce the risk of chafing.

-
Thin running socks provide close contact with the shoe and are suitable for many runners on warmer days. Slightly thicker models can provide extra comfort and warmth when it's cold or during longer runs.
-
In winter, it's important to keep your feet dry and comfortably warm. Choose running socks that suit the weather, your running shoes, and your personal preferences. Wool running socks are a popular choice because wool helps keep feet warm even when it's damp and cold.
-
There is no single running sock that suits all marathon runners. The most important thing is to choose a model that fits well on your foot, feels comfortable throughout the run, and works with your running shoes. If you are going for a long run, it is advantageous to use a pair of socks that you have already tested during training.
Read our Sock Guide for help choosing the right running socks.
-
Yes, running socks also work great for, for example, walks, gym workouts and other cardio training. They are developed to provide a good fit, effective moisture transport and high comfort, which makes them a good choice for many different activities.
-
The most important thing is that the material wicks away moisture and maintains a comfortable temperature during activity. Which material is best depends on the weather, intensity, and personal preferences.
-
When trail running, it's important that your socks fit snugly and securely around your foot. A close-fitting design provides support for your foot and helps the sock stay in place without slipping or bunching in your shoe, even on technical terrain and long descents. This reduces the risk of the sock slipping, causing friction and chafing as the terrain varies.
Hiking & outdoor
-
Hiking socks should provide good comfort, wick away moisture, and stay in place throughout your hike. The best model depends on the length of the hike, weather conditions, and the type of hiking boots or shoes you are wearing.
-
The risk of blisters is reduced if you use hiking socks with a good fit and materials that help keep your feet dry. A seamless toe can also help reduce the risk of chafing. Also, make sure your hiking boots or shoes fit properly and are well broken in.
Read our Sock Guide for help choosing the right hiking socks.
-
Both wool and synthetics have their advantages. Wool helps keep your feet warm even when wet and is well-suited for colder conditions. Synthetics dry quickly and are a good choice for warmer weather or high activity levels.
Read our Sock Guide and find the right material for your hike.
-
The choice between thin and thick hiking socks depends on the weather, shoes, and personal preferences. Thin socks are often suitable for warmer temperatures, while thicker models can provide extra warmth and cushioning during longer hikes or in colder conditions.
Skiing & winter
-
Ski socks with graduated compression provide pleasant pressure over the calf, helping to stabilize the calf muscle and support blood circulation. Together with merino wool and quick-drying 37.5® Technology, they also help keep your feet warm, dry, and comfortable during a long day in your ski boots.
-
Cold feet can be caused by several factors, for example, ski boots that are too tight restricting blood circulation, or moisture remaining in your socks. A ski sock with good moisture-wicking properties and a good fit helps keep your feet drier and can contribute to a more even temperature throughout the day.
-
Yes, wool is a popular material for ski socks because it helps keep feet warm even when wet. Wool also has good temperature-regulating properties, which means feet can feel comfortable during both cold and more active days in ski boots.
-
Ski socks should fit snugly against the foot and leg without creasing. They should be worn directly against the skin, and long johns should be pulled over the sock shaft. This way, you avoid creases and unevenness that can cause pressure, discomfort, and chafing in the ski boot.
Compression
-
Compression socks are designed to provide gradual pressure on the leg, with the greatest compression at the ankle and then decreasing up towards the calf. They are used for various activities, including running, training, and recovery, to provide support for the lower leg.
-
Both compression socks and support socks provide gradual pressure on the leg, but they are often used for different purposes. Compression socks are designed for activities such as running and exercise, while support socks are primarily used in everyday life, during travel, or for sedentary and standing work.
Read more about the difference between compression socks and support socks.
-
Compression means that the sock provides controlled pressure against the leg, highest at the ankle and gradually decreasing towards the calf. The graduated compression supports the muscles and is used during both activity and recovery.
-
Compression socks can be used for running, other training, and during recovery. Many choose them for longer training sessions or competitions because they support the lower leg and stay firmly in place throughout the activity.
-
Many runners use compression socks for stable support around their calves during training. The graduated compression provides a snug fit that stays in place throughout the run and can be perceived to offer increased comfort, especially over longer distances.
-
Yes, many people use compression socks even after exercise. The graduated compression supports the lower legs during recovery and can be a popular choice after long runs or other intense activities.
-
Compression socks cover both the foot and the calf, while calf sleeves only provide compression around the calf. If you want both compression and a functional sock in the same product, compression socks are a good choice. Calf sleeves are suitable if you prefer to wear a different sock on your foot but still want the benefits of compression for your calves.
Material & features
-
37.5® Technology is a functional material used in many of Gococo's socks. The material contains natural active particles that are permanently integrated into the fibers. They cannot be washed away or worn out and help to wick away moisture, reduce odor, and create a comfortable climate for your feet.
-
37.5® Technology uses naturally active particles derived from sources such as volcanic rock and coconut shells. These particles help the material wick away moisture when you're warm and release the moisture faster, which contributes to keeping your feet drier and making the socks quick-drying.
-
We use 37.5® Technology because the material helps keep feet drier and more comfortable during activity. The natural active particles are permanently integrated into the fibers, providing long-lasting properties such as efficient moisture wicking, quick drying time, and odor control without chemical treatment.
-
No. The natural active particles in 37.5® Technology are permanently embedded into the yarn fibres. They cannot be washed or worn away, which means the material’s function remains for the entire life of the sock.
-
Yes, merino wool is an excellent material for functional socks. It helps regulate temperature, wicks away moisture, and keeps feet warm even when they get damp. Merino wool is also soft against the skin and prevents odor, making it a popular choice for everything from hiking and skiing to everyday use.
-
Merino wool comes from merino sheep and has finer and softer fibers than traditional wool. This makes the material comfortable against the skin while providing good warmth, efficient moisture transport, and natural temperature regulation. Therefore, merino wool is often used in functional garments and socks for activities where comfort is important.
-
The best material depends on the activity you're doing, but common to all is that functional materials that effectively wick away moisture help keep your feet dry and comfortable. Gococo's socks combine carefully selected materials, such as 37.5® Technology, merino wool, and technical functional fibers, to provide the right comfort and performance for various types of training.
Size, fit & comfort
-
Primarily, choose the size you normally wear in shoes. Gococo's functional socks are designed with an anatomical fit and elastic materials that ensure they fit comfortably and follow the foot's movements. If you are between two sizes, we recommend following the size guide for the specific product.
-
Performance socks should fit snugly against the foot without feeling tight. A good fit means the sock follows the foot's movements and reduces the risk of wrinkles, friction, and chafing. Choose the right size and make sure the sock lies flat against your foot for the best comfort throughout your activity.
-
If your socks slide down, it's usually due to the wrong size or because the model isn't suitable for the activity you're doing. A performance sock with the correct size and fit sits comfortably on your foot and helps reduce the risk of the sock moving during activity.
-
Why do I get blisters despite good shoes?
Blisters often occur when friction, moisture, and movement combine to stress the skin. Even if shoes fit well, incorrectly sized socks, fabric creases, or sweaty feet can increase the risk of chafing. A functional sock with a good fit and effective moisture wicking helps to reduce friction and keep feet drier during activity.

-
The choice between thin and thick socks depends on the activity, weather, and personal comfort. Thin functional socks are often suitable for running and training where good ventilation and close contact with the shoe are important. Thicker socks can provide extra comfort and warmth for activities like hiking or winter sports. Regardless of the model, the correct size and fit are important to reduce the risk of chafing.

If you have slim calves but large feet, it can be difficult to find a compression sock that fits both your foot and your calf. In that case, a Compression Calf Sleeve Kit or Compression Calf Sleeve Superior Kit can be a good alternative. You then choose the size of the sock based on your foot and the size of the calf sleeves based on your calf measurement, so that you get both the right fit and the right compression.
-
If you have large calves but small feet, it can be difficult to find a compression sock that fits both foot and calf. In that case, a Compression Calf Sleeve Kit or Compression Calf Sleeve Superior Kit can be a good option. Then you choose the size of the sock based on your foot and the size of the calf sleeves based on your calf measurement, so that you get both the right fit and the right compression.
-
The compression stocking should fit smoothly against the leg without creases, and the top should end approximately 2–3 cm below the knee. If the top feels long, distribute the material evenly over the calf. Do not fold down the upper edge, as this can create uneven pressure and impair the compression's function.
-
If you were happy with the size of your previous compression socks, you can easily check it on the colored stripe on the inside of the shaft:
- Green = Small
- Red = Medium
- Blue = Large
- Gray = L+
Washing, Care & Sustainability
-
Wash your functional socks according to the washing instructions on the product to preserve their fit and function for as long as possible. If you no longer have the packaging, we recommend washing them at 40 °C.
Avoid fabric softener as it can affect the moisture-wicking properties of the materials. It is also good to air-dry the socks after washing to reduce wear and tear. -
We do not normally recommend washing functional socks at 60 °C, as higher temperatures can wear out the materials more and affect the fit over time. If the washing instructions are no longer available, 40 °C is a good rule of thumb for most functional socks.
If you need to wash the socks extra hygienically, for example for athlete's foot, you can use a detergent that is designed to clean effectively even at lower temperatures. In that case, you can often wash at 40 °C and still get a good washing result.
-
Performance socks are best air-dried. High heat from a tumble dryer can wear out the materials and affect the fit over time. To extend the lifespan and preserve the function of the socks, we therefore recommend that you let them air dry after washing. Always follow the washing instructions on the product if they are still available.
-
Merino wool socks should be washed according to the care instructions on the product to preserve the material's properties. If you no longer have the care instructions, 40 °C is a good recommendation for most merino wool socks. Avoid fabric softener and preferably let the socks air dry to reduce wear and tear and help them retain their shape and comfort.
-
No. 37.5® Technology is permanently integrated into the material and will not wash out. This means that the technology will continue to help regulate moisture and temperature even after repeated washes. To maintain the fit and lifespan of your socks, we recommend following the washing instructions on the product.
-
If training socks still smell after washing, it's often because sweat, bacteria, and dirt haven't been completely washed away. Wash the socks as soon as possible after use, avoid fabric softener, and follow the washing instructions on the product.
In Gococo's socks, we use 37.5® Technology, which has documented odor control. How much a garment smells is individual and is affected by factors such as activity and perspiration. If you wash your socks according to the washing instructions, washing helps reactivate the material's function by removing odor molecules that have accumulated in the fibers.
With proper care, you can expect Gococo's socks to stay fresher than comparable functional socks without 37.5® Technology.
